Antique Copper Souvenir Tea Caddy for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 Coronation by Purity Tips
This is a royal souvenir from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1953 Coronation. Inside, the bottom is stamped with PURITY TIPS, which is the manufacturer. The front of the cannister is embossed with the royal crown and Elizabeth R 1953 in a cursive font. The item is 14.6 cm (5.8 inches) high, 10.4 cm (4 inches) in diameter and 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep. It weighs about 229 grams (8 ounces).
These canisters, often made of copper or tin, were used to store tea and other items. The lid on this cannister appears to be solid copper whereas the caddy may be tin with a copper overlay. This royal tea caddy is quite popular among collectors of royal memorabilia.
This antique souvenir is 71 years' old and is in remarkably good condition. It seems that when packed for shipment, the stacking method resulted in a 2.4 cm (1-inch) shallow dent on the lid. Around the bottom rim are two more small dents. One is near the foot, and the other is midway between the two feet. Again, both are the result of the stacking method for shipping, not damage from use. None of the dents interfere with the caddy's balance or appearance.
This piece of royal memorabilia from Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation would make a wonderful gift for someone who loves the royals of the British Monarchy.
